Activities for Young People (written by members of Youth Group)

YOUTH GROUP.
St Mary's Church Stannington has provided a youth group for children ranging from the ages of 9 to 13. The Youth Group gives children the chance to go on trips with other groups or even short holidays away together.
The Youth Group usually lasts about an hour and a half and can end up doing all kinds of things. Our vicar, Colin Gough, and sometimes a helper run the group and arrange the activities for everybody. Events so far have been quiz nights and ten pin bowling. There is also sometimes research about subjects like St George and what his flag represents.
One of the future events is to visit one of the newest churches and one of the oldest churches in our area. People who attend the Youth Group are usually people who go to church or sin busters and who are prepared to take part in activities.
SIN BUSTERS.
Sin Busters is like a Sunday School for 5 to 13 year olds. You do really cool stuff like making things, learning about God and other people. We also do plays like at Easter and Christmas which are good fun. Deborah runs Sin Busters along with other helpers. You go into a newly built room at the back of the Church and then someone comes to you and you walk up the chancel to get communion. If you are not confirmed you can't eat the bread or drink the wine. At the end of the service you can get some refreshments plus when you go out if there are leaflets you will be given one. The vicar of the Church is called Colin and sometimes there is a different vicar. As well as our meeting room there is also a computer room and a kitchen.
THE SERVERS.
St Mary's Church has servers who do various jobs for the Sunday services. The servers' ages vary from 9 to nearly 13 years old and there are presently 5 servers called Jonathan, Cameron, Andrew, Dean and Rosie. There will be more servers as the young members of the church reach a certain age.
The servers get certain jobs each week which are on a rota. Each week servers pair up and are either server one or server two. You get the responsibility to make sure there is enough bread for communion. Server one has to ring the bell before the service and server two carries the cross up to the altar in front of the choir.
After the service the servers put out the candles and put everything away. The servers help the services run more smoothly by helping our Vicar Colin with his jobs each week, such as pouring water into the chalice after communion and bringing the collection to the side.
So altogether the servers are very helpful and anyone interested in the job please inform Vicar Colin.
